The story of our kennel begins about thirty years ago, in the early Seventies.

The founder, a young hunter named Libero Zagni, was disappointed with the performances of the dogs he had bought here and there, so he decided to create a litter of his own.

He bought a female setter – with the “Del Dianella” kennel – from the famous trainer Alfiero Rovini and he had her covered by the famous Dum Del Meschio”. He later decided to couple the Decor Lot with a young female from the previous litter. This litter of puppies opened the path to an unhoped for firm success.

An ever-growing number of hunters from Bologna addressed to Zagni to get a good gun dog. In 1981 the E.N.C.I. gave him the “Del Zagnis” kennel.

Our Champions

Besides attending to his breeding, he decided to start a new activity as a trainer. Through years of hard selecting and training a new stock was created which proved to be successful in hunting trials, in quail shooting, in tracking and above all in shooting.

More than 100 International Champions and Work Champions and 7 Trialers where then proclaimed.

The Black English Setter “Del Zagnis” won the Derby in 1995, the female Pointer Alvis Tundra won it in 1996.

The English setter Akim – the son of Decor Lot – won the European Tracking and Scenting Championship, which is the most important among cynotechnic competitions.

As for the ENCI Trophy, we got the second place in the last three years, but we placed third for seven years consecutively and we won the most important Trophy for three times.

In order to satisfy our Clients’ requests in spite of the insurmountable difficulties we still find in Italy, in 1995 we opened a branch in Serbia, where two skilful local trainers bring our puppies in touch with the autochthonous game: partridges, woodcocks, snipes, quails and pheasants.

Two years ago we also bought a share in a game sanctuary in Greece, where partridges are still numerous.

Libero’s son, Ernesto, personally runs this sections: he selects the best specimens and finds promising puppies to train.
